  • Stair

Oh man, I need to go to Stair, a new cafe/restaurant/bar in Aoyama designed by Wonderwall‘s Masamichi Katayama. More pics on this page. Here’s the description from the Wonderwall site: The idea behind this bar lounge was the revival of the glitzy cabaret of a past era. Gaudiness, allure, a touch of the wicked and…

  • Show Me the Ramen!

NCM‘s Ola points me this Google blog post: “Finding Great Ramen Nearby.” As this link (of spots near Shinjuku that feature 1000 yen or less plate specials) shows, the Google local/maps are now covering Japan — quick link to Local Japan and Maps Japan. Update: Oh man, I’ve started doing searches for cafes by area…

  • Kissa Ginza

Here’s a view of the Kissa Ginza cafe/bar in Ebisu (moblogged the other day) from the outside.

  • Waseda Cafes

When I went to the cafe Les Jeux Grenier with Yuki the other day, I asked her to recommend me some nice cafes near the main Waseda University campus (she’s a student there), and here’s what she suggested: Cafe Goto – They’ve got really nice cakes! Cafe Retro (pictured above — notice all the issues…

  • Kissa Ginza

Enjoying a nice cold one at Kissa Ginza, actually located in Ebisu. I’ve been wanting to come here for a while now, ever since seeing a picture of the place in an issue of PAPER SKY. I’ll write more when I get back home. Update: For anyone who went to the Scala-za in Shinjuku before…

  • Design/Books/Cafe

Design/Books/Cafe. Three things that just seem to go hand-in-hand, and the ongoing “German Year” event offers up something for lovers of all 3: One of the central themes of the “German year” is design. While to those familiar with German design the current “DesignLab” series is recommended as a source of inspiration and advanced information,…

  • We Have a Signal

I’m currently at the Deux et Neuf Cafe in Shibuya, and to my great surprise, I’m connecting to the internet with my iBook. I was just planning on working on some texts (a few pieces for a magazine called Planet), and I opened up and found a network. The signal is very weak (one or…

  • Sign Anniversary

Sign Daikyanama is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of a collection of coffee tumblers designed by the likes of Groovisions, TEN_DO_TEN, and Shu-Thang Grafix (there’s a fourth one, but I’m not sure who the artist is). I think they go for around 1000 yen.

  • Margo

A few more shots of the Margo cafe in Yutenji. I also wrote a post about it at Gridskipper the other day.

  • Deux et Neuf Cafe

A few days ago I dropped by the Deux et Neuf Cafe, next door to Conceal Cafe (literally) in Shibuya. Deux et Neuf is actually more of a bistro, so it complements Conceal quite well. The two spots have become my favorite destinations in Shibuya.
