Death on the Nile

I have a gift, and that gift is that I tend to forget what happens in a film after watching it (OK, maybe it’s not a gift), which means that when I re-watch murder mysteries, I go in not knowing what the solution is, which was the case here. This is still an enjoyable film — I generally quite like films based on Agatha Christie novels (and quite enjoy her novels), and Peter Ustinov was my Poirot growing up. Great cast, great denouement, a fun time indeed.

Evil Under the Sun

Unlike Death on the Nile, I do have memories of watching this when it came out in the 80s – maybe even at the cinema, with my parents – and although I didn’t remember how it ended exactly, I did recall bits. What I like about going back and watching these movies from the 70s and 80s is seeing all of these actors who did the rounds in those days, but that we haven’t seen in years (even decades). I quite liked watching it, and have decided to go back and watch all of the Ustinov Poirot films – although the others ones are unfortunately TV movies.

Death on the Nile

Over the past few years I’ve been occasionally reading Agatha Christie novels – I’m currently reading Peril at End House – and I was in the mood to watch this. I’m not quite sure if I did see this back in the day or not – I could have, and I do remember seeing most if not all of Ustinov’s Poirot appearances – but I definitely didn’t remember anything about the story, and more importantly, how it ended. It was good fun watching it, especially with that all-star cast, and I now want to watch Evil Under the Sun again.
