  • Fukutoshin Line

Japan Probe has a nice report on the new subway line that opens this Saturday. I’m actually really excited, because it means I’ll be able to get to Shibuya in just 11 minutes, and also way more quickly to Omotesando. A few facts: The Fukutoshin Line is the 13th Tokyo-area subway line. Construction of the…

  • The End of Yellow

Imprint Talk is reporting that seminal Tokyo club Yellow is set to close its doors for good this month. The final events will be held June 20-21. Tokyo electronic fans were shocked to find out the club Spacelab Yellow, a club that has been packing them in for the pass 17 years. is now closing.…

  • Polypunk 31

Digiki presents Polypunk 31, a Daft Punk special called “Polypunk After All.” I have a feeling I’m really going to like this one. Cover photo by Alin.

  • MUJI Goes Upscale

Marxy tells me that MUJI is planning a new shop in Shinjuku that will only sell higher priced products — an upscale MUJI if you will. Looks like it may be called MUJI Shinjuku Piccadilly. Update: The store will be inside a new shopping center called Shinjuku Piccadilly, which opens July 19.

  • Hip Lounging Japan

Nice to see that my Swedish compadres Next Century Modern are included in the book Hip Lounging Japan, for their work with Thoms & Nilsson on the Absolut Icebar in Tokyo. I’d like to go through the book to see what else gets included.

  • Sake from Microsoft

I attended Microsoft’s press event in Shibuya for their upcoming Xbox 360 RPG lineup yesterday, and as we left we were given this bottle of sake. I have to say this is definitely the best piece of swag I’ve ever gotten at an event. Love that play on words too — “Xbox 360 no RPG…

  • Searched in Shinjuku

Max gets a photo featured on Japan Today, of a dude getting his bag checked by police officers.

  • Testing the Tenori-on

Me trying out Toshio Iwai’s Tenori-on electronic music device at the Spiral building in Aoyama. They have two on display for demo-ing, in front of Spiral Records. It’s fun to play with, but I couldn’t really get a feel for how deep you can go with composition. Thanks for the photo, Julie!
