Pink Boarding

I haven’t shared any Tokyoiter covers in a while — while they were preparing for their recent exhibition, the site had gone a bit quiet — but there have been plenty of additions following the show, and the latest one is the lovely cover you see here, created by my buddy Louis-Étienne Vallée.

Mario + Rabbids: Battle Kingdom

I’m having such a great time playing this. I was so excited when it first got announced at our Ubi presser during E3 — and was even more ecstatic to see Miyamoto join Yves on stage (and I even had a chance to tell Yves just that). So yeah, I’m super happy that Ubi has produced a Mario game, and I’m even happier (and relieved) that it’s a fantastic game. I’m not even that big into turn-based strategy games — I like them fine, but don’t seek them out — but I was easily sucked into Battle Kingdom as soon as I started playing (I played 4-5 straight hours the first time I popped it in). A few days later, I’m still having a blast playing it, and it makes me hope that we’ll see more great collaborations between Ubi and Nintendo in the future.

Halt and Catch Fire (Season 4)

Halt and Catch Fire is among my favorite series of all time — it constantly feels like it was written just for me — and what we’ve seen so far of season 4 (the final season) has been fantastic. Every season has been set during a different era of technology, and this latest one, focusing on the birth of the web, brings back so many nostalgic memories — and the early 90s soundtrack doesn’t hurt either. Sure, I’m a bit sad that this is the final season, but maybe that’s for the best, as I imagine it’ll offer up some sort of closure.

Wonder Woman

I finally watched this, and yeah, it’s pretty good. I don’t think I would put it ahead of the other super-hero flicks that I consider to be my favorites, but it’s certainly one of the better super-hero films to come along, and it’s great to see a woman-led one be this good. I would have liked to see more action — because the scenes where we do see Wonder Woman in action are pretty thrilling to watch — but we were at least treated to some really entertaining performances and lines throughout. Gal Gadot is fantastic as Wonder Woman, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

The Circle

Having watched this, I’m still not quite sure to what level I enjoyed it. I mean, I didn’t dislike it, and I was entertained enough throughout. But there’s something off, sometimes it’s the cheesiness of it — the satire of the Googleplex feels lazy — sometimes it’s just that what happens feels too obvious. Hanks feels wasted, and Watson is fine but I don’t find her performance to be particularly great or inspiring. I liked Karen Gillan a lot at the start, but later on, her burnout feels overly dramatic. So yeah, I somehow didn’t mind watching it, but didn’t come out of with super positive thoughts.
