If you follow me via my social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and/or X, you may have noticed (or maybe not, who knows with the way the algorithm goes these days) that I haven’t been posting much these days. I’m sure I’m not alone in hitting social media fatigue, but add to that recently reading the book Careless People about the way FB is run, and it all has me feeling pretty tired of using those spaces (and anything related to Meta, for that matter). I stopped posting to X months ago, and so my social activity these days is pretty much limited to WeChat (the de facto communication app in China — @jeansnow_shanghai), and Bluesky (@jeansnow.bsky.social), where I post the kinds of things that I was sharing on X/Twitter. I also post about my events here on my blog of course, and I am thinking of starting a newsletter to gather monthly updates for all my activity here in Shanghai, which includes PauseTalk, PechaKucha Night, FOTO5, Shanghai Design Pins , and more — I’ve been thinking about doing this for ages, but I think it’s finally time to do it, as I get off the traditional social sites.
So yeah, I can’t say that I’ll completely stop checking those accounts — I’ve already decided to stop creating new event pages for PauseTalk on FB, but I may continue to do so for PechaKucha Night Shanghai — but it won’t be on a regular basis.
