Sometime/Someplace

While we anxiously await the release of Cornelius‘s upcoming album (out in Japan on June 28), he’s just a released a new single/video for the track “Sometime / Someplace.” I was listening to Fantasma this afternoon, and I love it as much now as I did back in 1997.

Playgirl Dai Makyou

Kinoco Hotel have a 10th album coming out that’s a compilation of past tracks (with one new track), and I just love the covers. Here’s also a great video for the track “Atashi no Sniper (Short Version).” I’ve seen them at least a couple of times live at SuperDeluxe, and they give an awesome show. More details about the album over at Tokyo’s Coolest Sound.

Superworker

I was relieved to see the other day that my friends Rekka and Devine (Hundred Rabbits) made it through the 28-day journey of sailing over the Pacific Ocean, from Mexico to French Polynesia — the goal is to reach Japan. Now that they’re back on land, they’ve been updating us on what they’ve been up to, and on top of the video they’re about to release to share the tale of their month-long journey, Devine has just released a new 3-track album called Superworker.

Lyrical School

I have a thing for female rapping in Japanese — it’s a sound I really love, starting with Halcali, and followed by a few artists since. I’m not in love with all of their songs, but there’s something neat about the hip-hop idol group Lyrical School, who are about to release their first major label album, Guidebook. You may have heard of them before, as they had a music video go viral earlier this year for the song “Run and Run,” that was specially formatted for mobile phone screens. This post on Tokyo’s Coolest Sound includes a few videos to check out.
