With all the hype surrounding Civil War, I decided to revisit this, and found myself enjoying it much more than I remember liking it the first time around. Sure, Batroc with a Quebec accent still bugs me to no end, and I still think Scarlett Johansson is goddawful as the Black Widow, but the rest of it I could get into. Makes me look forward to seeing Civil War a bit more, even though I’m not really that excited about it (not even sure I’ll go see it at the theatre).
First, what I didn’t like. I still think Scarlett Johansson is just horrible as Black Window, she just couldn’t be less convincing as a kick-ass international superspy. And this only affects French speakers, but it’s so annoying to see someone who is supposed to be French talking with a Quebec accent. OK, other than that? I enjoyed the fuck out of this, and it’s got to be my favorite Marvel movie so far. Great action sequences throughout, with surprisingly entertaining fight scenes – wasn’t expecting to see such good fight choreography. I also really liked the spy/counterspy angle, and Falcon was really nicely developed, as was The Winter Soldier. Looking forward to the next one.
