Japan Yesteryear

When I posted a link to those great stereoviews of old Japanese life, Kristen Elsby let me know about a group pool she’s been hosting on Flickr called “Japanese in Yesteryear,” for found photos.

This is a group for portraits and snapshots, both formal and informal, of the people from Japan’s past (as well as for Japanese diaspora in other countries). Family shots, studio portraits, amateur portraits and snapshots are all welcome. Fleamarket finds and other found photos are perfect — let’s give these little seen photos a new life!

In the same vein, you should of course also take a look at Ian Lynam‘s continuing “Meeting Modernity” series over at Néojaponisme.
