I love Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness so damn much, and I was beyond excited at the idea of getting a TV series that follows that, with good ol’ Bruce as Ash, and Sam Raimi on board as well (and even directing the pilot). The first episode was pretty much everything I was hoping I’d get from the series, and immediately made me feel like this was going to be my new favorite show. It’s dumb, fun, crazy, gory. Basically, it’s Evil Dead.
Now this is how you do a remake. Change things up, do some fun homages to the original, and surprise with different choices. This film is truly horrific, and one of the bloodiest things I’ve seen in a while. And I don’t want to spoil, but you NEED to watch until the end of the credits… After watching this I was reading up on the franchise, and not only is a sequel to this film in the works, but Raimi has also started writing Army of Darkness 2, and the ultimate plan is to then do a 7th film that would merge all of these things together.
