The Legend of Korra (Game)

As I wrote the other day, I started watching the Legend of Korra series recently, and I’m enjoying it so far (6 episodes in). I remember that when the Korra game came out a while back, although it looked great – and it has Platinum Studios behind it (I love the Bayonetta games to death) – it wasn’t super well received. With Korra on my mind these days, when I saw that the PS4 version was on sale last week for 5 bucks, I decided to grab it anyway. I do get why the game got criticized – the environments are indeed pretty bland – but it does look great in terms of the characters, and I love how the animated cut scenes that come in and out really feel like they’re straight out of the show. I’d say I’m getting my money’s worth, and I’m probably about halfway through the game now.

The Legend of Korra

I’ll start off by saying that I never really watched the Avatar series that proceeded this – I actually tried quite a few years ago, sampling the first couple of episodes, but I just wasn’t into it. I have a hard time with shows/movies from the west that rely heavily on Asian influences, as it usually always comes off as cheesy and just a weird mishmash. Yes, this in particular is fantasy, but I still got that vibe initially. But I saw The Legend of Korra (spinoff series to Avatar) pop up on Netflix, and since I’d heard good things about it I decided to give it a try. I’ve watched about 4 episodes now, and although it’s not blowing my mind (my favorite anime series right now is AJIN, also on Netflix), I’m finding it quite enjoyable, and I have a feeling that it’s going to keep getting better as the story progresses. We’ll see how I feel once I’m done with the first season, but it’s also making me want to give Avatar another try.
