In the second edition of his new weekly column STREAMING, writer Warren Ellis talks about his inclusion in the current SENT mobile phone photography exhibition taking place in LA. Yours truly gets a bit of a mention, which is nice. Also, please have a look at his current playlist, which appears at the end of the column. It includes a certain electronic artist who’s become a favorite around here.

Kiiiiiii in Concert

ki-kiiiss-rain2Patrick’s Agenda brings us news that Kiiiiiii, alongside Nihao! and Petty Booka, will be performing at Shinjuku Red Cloth on August 11. I’ll definitely try to go to this if I’m in town (it’s during my holidays, and I still don’t know if I’m going anywhere).

TSiG Street Art

PRESS RELEASE

TOKYO STYLE IN GOTHENBURG 2004
Street Art / Self Promotion

tsig

For Tokyo Style in Gothenburg we are trying to bring the spirit of contemporary Tokyo to Gothenburg and the cultural building Röda Sten (www.rodasten.com). You can find some pictures of the venue here.

The streets of Tokyo
Besides bringing contemporary japanese artists, musicians, designers etc. we wanna create a feeling of the urban Tokyo. Since street art, posters, stickers and so on, has become an important part of the urban public space, it would be fun to bring some of it over to Sweden. This would then be put up on the walls of Röda Sten, inside + outside, in the elevators, staircases and corridors between the exhibit areas. We also have a special “Tokyo Style Art Tram” were we are going to replace the usual advertisment with contemporary japanese art or some of the stuff you send us. The tram is gonna be in traffic during the festival days taking passengers from the city center to our main venue Röda Sten.

An oppertunity for promotion in Sweden
Since we are a low budget independent festival organized by a network of young creative people in Gothenburg, who all works for free, we were hoping you would like to send us some of the street art, posters, flyers, free papers, stickers etc. that can be found on the streets of Tokyo. Maybe you wanna promote your club, your clothing brand, your own designstudio or favourite music artist. What you gain for yourself is the good feeling you get in your heart after helping out fellow creatives, but also promotion in Gothenburg, Sweden. Contributers will also receive documentation of the exhibit and it’s different forms of imported street art. If you are interested in helping out please send us as much stuff as you like to the address below, and we will be ever grateful.

We would like:
Posters, stickers, flyers, papers, commercial ads etc.

Sent to the address:

Deadline:
We need your stuff before the 10th of august 2004

We arrange this festival out of love and fascination for Japan and its contemporary culture, and are hoping this is something you want to support. If you have any questions regarding the festival feel free to contact us at: info@tsig.se

2004 ADC Exhibition

A new month means a new exhibition at the Ginza Graphic Gallery, and it’s time for the annual ADC show.

July is here, and with it comes the annual ADC exhibition from the Ginza Graphic Gallery, this year entitled ‘2004 ADC Exhibition.’ This year saw approximately 9,300 entries produced between May 2003 and April 2004, and all were given careful consideration by the 89 ADC members. Works included posters, newspaper and magazine advertisements, editorial designs, general publication graphics, corporate identity logos and symbols, and TV commercials. The gallery will be presenting the award-winning works and other outstanding entries ahead of publication in December of the ADC Annual. Works by ADC members will be shown at ggg, and those in the general category (non-members’ works) will be shown at G8. Since the founding of the ADC (Tokyo Art Directors Club) in 1952, its activities continue to generate interest within the Japanese advertising and design world, where the ADC award attracts attention as one of the most prestigious offered each year.

Yoshimaru Shin

10Waste away the hours by having a look at Japanese designer Yoshimaru Shin’s superbly titled YOSHIRUMACHINE site. Seems like he’s involved in the organization of quite a few events, like a recent one for the band Tennis Coats (and their label Majikick), and an upcoming one (July 18) at Uplink Gallery for 360records’ Miroque. Credit for the info goes to Hanada Kinya.

Tokumaru Shugo in Koenji Again

A quick heads up to and upcoming Tokumaru Shugo live show at Enban in Koenji on July 1. It’s something called “Den-Den Mushi Night,” presented by Majikick Records. Show starts at 7, and it’s only 1000 yen. Alas, it’s another one of those early weekday shows that I can’t attend…
