Sick

I was sick this weekend (still feeling tired), and it basically ruined whatever plans I had. Spent the day yesterday watching lots of stuff I had downloaded, like a bunch of episodes of the TV show ALIAS (I am so addicted to that show). I’ve also started watching a new anime that debuted 2 months ago on Fuji TV (late-night Wednesdays) called GAD GUARD. I’ve only watched the first episode, but it definitely got me intrigued. I’ll wait until I see more of the series before giving a proper review. Still enjoying LAST EXILE and WOLF’S RAIN a lot.

Last night’s MECHA MECHA IKETERU was hilarious. To celebrate Takashi Okamura’s 33rd birthday, they just sat around a table and had a contest to see who could stay there and drink for the longest time (giving up meant saying “oyasumi nasai” and then crashing on the futons in the adjacent room). Okamura won, lasting some 22 hours, and it was just so funny to see some of the MECHA IKE members show a side of them we’d never seen before. This morning we watched last week’s MECHA IKE, which I had taped because of our trip to Seoul, and it featured an appearance by Espa Ito, one of the weirdest characters you’ll ever see (and one of our favorites, of course). The guy is insane, no doubt about it.

I think we’re going to go see CHARLIE’S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE tonight. It looks like dumb fun, which is what I’m in the mood for. Oh, and speaking of the CA girls, I saw in a tabloid magazine a picture of them (in town a few weeks ago to promote the film) getting a good laugh at the arrival of the infamous Kano Sisters. For those not in the know, the Kano Sisters are these celebrity hags who promote themselves as, well, I don’t really get it, but they’re just so over-the-top into themselves that it’s funny as hell. They even have their own late-night TV show where it’s just them going to premieres and shops and commenting on whatever. It’s almost surreal. You just had to see the one episode when they went to the Don Qixote shop in Roppongi and celebrated with champagne. Like I said, surreal.
