Creative GBG in Tokyo

1843598581_d6a6638174

With all my running around to catch Tokyo Design Week events and then the 3 nights of Radio OK Fred sessions, I haven’t had much of a chance to talk about our “Creative GBG in Tokyo” event for Swedish Style 2007 at Cafe Pause. As you’ll know if you’ve visited the official site, the idea was to promote a collection of 10 creators from the city of Gothenburg, Sweden, with installations at the cafe, as well as the production of a catalog (you can download a PDF version here). You still have a chance to catch the installations since the event runs until November 8, and here’s a Flickr photoset to give you a peak at what it looks like.

When’s the best time to come? That would be this Monday (November 5), which is when we’ll have our party, which includes a special edition of PauseTalk. How will it differ from regular editions? It will be shorter, kicking off at 20:00, and starting with me and Jesper talking about the event, then followed by a couple of Swedish creators talking about some of their works, and then topped with a repeat performance of W. David Marx‘s Powerpoint presentation of “The Idealogy of Micro-Idealogy” that was shown this past Friday at our Radio OK Fred session (not to be missed). Doors will open at 19:00, and you’ll be able to pick up a free copy of the Creative GBG catalog. Come one come all!

To add to the great gallery I already posted, I’ve put up a Flickr photoset of photos I took myself over the 3 nights (mostly tonight), with more of a focus on our Radio OK Fred sessions.

Following up on the photos of us taken by Sebastian Mayer in the previous post, here then is an entire gallery of photos taken by him during the first two days of Item Idem‘s installation, “Display Sthetics,” at Celine Omotesando during this year’s edition of DesignTide. Big thanks again for inviting us to do our live Radio OK Fred sessions.

Radio OK Fred November 2 Session

071103-okfredders2

071103-okfredders

The Radio OK Fred session from yesterday (November 2), recorded live at Celine Omotesando, is now online. Thanks again to all our guests for making it such a fun experience. Any and all glitches are definitely due to a fair amount of alcohol consumption. Photos of the OK Fredders (Ega, Ay2, and me) by Sebastian Mayer.

I’ll post more later, but wanted to share a few photos from the Radio OK Fred shows at Celine Omotesando we’ve been doing this week (these are from last night). Up top, W. David Marx in presentation mode, below, Megumi with a handout, Cyril and Micke, and then part of the Item Idem installation.

Radio OK Fred at Celine Omotesando #3

Yup, we’re doing it again tonight (November 3, 18:00-20:00), a live session of Radio OK Fred at Celine Omotesando, so if you’re in the area stop by again for some drinks, music, and general madness. Thanks again to all the guests who made last night so much fun. Attendance was maybe down compared to the Wednesday show, but I think we had even more fun — and I have newfound respect for W. David Marx and the art of the Powerpoint presentation (we will really try to get that online so you can all see and hear it). Last night’s show will be uploaded sometime today I think, and I’ll update this post with the link when it becomes available.

With all the guest DJs we had last night — with great selections I may add, so thanks to Digiki, Marie, and Micke for being a part of the show, and for the great preview from Marxy’s upcoming album — I only got to play the following 3 tracks:

  • Holland – “Anorexic Colt Herd” (from LOVE FLUXUS)
  • Shugo Tokumaru – “Clocca” (from EXIT)
  • Thee Headcoatees – “Wild Man” (from GIRLSVILLE)

I’ve prepared over 20 tracks for tonight. Since we won’t have as many guests tonight, I’ll probably get to play more of my selections. For more info on the event, see previous posts (here and here).

Radio OK Fred at Celine Omotesando #2

071031-radiookfred-celine

Following the very fun first performance of Radio OK Fred at Celine Omotesando this past Wednesday, we’re getting ready for a second session tonight (November 2, 18:00-20:00). Tonight we’re having a bit of fun with the idea of “Creativity Now,” with special guest W. David Marx (Marxy) giving a lecture. The show will then include some special guest DJs: Marie from Colette, PMKFA, and Digiki. Expect all the wackiness of the other night’s edition, again, with free drinks and a fun atmosphere. It seems like we’re so in demand that we’ll probably be doing it again tomorrow night as well — if that happens I’ll post details again tomorrow.

If you couldn’t make it to the last one, part of it is online here. Here’s a little blurb I wrote for it:

RADIO OK FRED returns with live sessions recorded in the middle of the Item Idem installation at Celine Omotesando, part of this year’s edition of DesignTide. First up, a Halloween special (recorded October 31) with a few performances, mixed in with some “haunted” tracks, and the OK FREDDERS offering interesting takes on the news. (Technical difficulties cut the first 30 minutes or so of the show.)

I had prepared 16 Halloween-themed tracks (in title mostly) for the show, but only got to play the following four:

  • Manfred Hubler & Siegfried Schwab – “The Lions and the Cucumber” (from VAMPYROS LESBOS: SEXADELIC DANCE PARTY)
  • K.I.M. – “Death of an Oakim” (from MIYAGE)
  • The Grusesomes – “Stop It, Girl” (from CAVE-IN!)
  • Charlotte Gainsbourg – “Little Monsters” (from 5:55)

Week Update

Things are slow here, and I think you all know why. I’m also having a hard time keeping up with my mail correspondence, so if I don’t get back to you right away, please be patient until next week. I have been doing some dispatches for Neojpanisme — the second one just went up, and the first one is here.
