I’ve been pretty lazy when it comes to this website in recent years, barely bothering with doing much more than using one of the basic WordPress templates (currently a modified version of “Twenty Twenty-Four”), and just sharing the occasional post, mostly about my movie watching. Last summer I decided to start sharing more news on my activities with PechaKucha Night and PauseTalk here in Shanghai, and that gave it a boost of life in terms of content. And now I’ve started the next step, which is to finally give the site’s design a bit of love.
The main changes for now is that I’ve created a landing page for each of my activities — not just PechaKucha Night and PauseTalk, but also Shanghai Design Pins ๐ and FOTO5 (soon to be joined by one more) — that appear as links at the top and bottom of each page on the site. Those landing pages explain each activity, and then for some include the last few posts that relate to them.
I also updated the front page to be a bit more colorful by having it show the featured image of the last few posts — this also meant that I had to go back and start adding a “featured image” to each post, as I wasn’t using that feature previously.
And yes, I’ve moved away from the stark black and white aesthetic I was using, and introduced a color for the links — I expect this color will change fairly often, as I used to do with my blog back in the day (where for a time, I would change it seasonally).
That’s pretty much it for now, but I’ll continue to experiment a bit, and see what else I can do to improve things, and to make it more useful a site. I’ve been blogging since 1998 — and started using blogging software (currently WordPress) in 2002 — so it’s pretty neat to think that I’ve managed to keep an active website going for 27 years now.
