All we’ve been seeing on TV since last night is news about the Hanshin Tigers winning the Central League penant. This is a big deal, I guess, because it’s the first time they do in 18 years, and the fans of the Tigers are renowned for being, well, crazy. All night they’ve been jumping in the absolutely filthy Dotomburi river, which is a tradition of theirs. They’ve been at it all night, and it seems that over 5400 people have already jumped. Osaka is going crazy, and today every store in the city is having huge “banzai” sales. Sales of Tigers goods alone are probably going to bring in 400 billion yen. Go figure.
