  • Luke Cage

I’m only 5 episodes in (just started watching the 6th one), and I gotta say that so far I’m enjoying this show way more than the other Netflix Marvel series, except maybe for the first season of Daredevil. I really didn’t like Jessica Jones, and so that already made me feel less than excited about…

  • Scream Queens

They just recently added the first season to Netflix, and so I figured I’d give it a try – I did quite enjoy Glee back in the day (didn’t watch the final season though), and quite liked the first season of American Horror Story (both of these Ryan Murphy creations, and he’s also behind Scream…

  • Guide to Tokyo Record Stores

The title of this post is “The Biggest Guide to Tokyo Record Stores on the Internet,” and it very well may be. It’s exhaustive as hell, and written in a super personal manner, which makes for a fun read. Skimming through it, I felt a lot of nostalgia, as I definitely spent a lot of…

  • Construction: A Short Story

When he’s not writing definitive guides to fashion in Japan, W. David Marx likes to write funny stuff, and here’s a fun little story he just wrote for Racked, called “Construction: A Short Story.”

  • Momentary

Ilya Kuvshinov is a Russian illustrator and comic artist based in Tokyo, and he’s just announced that Pie Books will be releasing an art book of his work, entitled Momentary (out on November 30). In the meantime, take some time to go through his beautiful illustrations, or support him through his Patreon.

  • Tokyo Romp

My friend photographer Genevieve Daniell is heading back to Tokyo for a few weeks — she used to be based there, and we met through my PauseTalk events — and she’ll be doing shoots while she’s there. She’s fantastic at what she does, and so book her while you can.

  • Spectral Pot

The ceramic tea bowl pictured is by Shohei Fujita, and is part of his “Pots on the Wall” exhibition, taking place at Shibuya Hikarie 8 (October 12 to November 3). I share it because, as a Bond fanatic, to me it looks like it was created for SPECTRE.

  • Dragon Quest Builders (Demo)

Been pretty curious about this game – I feel like it’s something that will give me the direction I find lacking (for me) in Minecraft – and so was happy that they released a demo so we can take it out for a spin. The first thing to mention is that I love the soundtrack.…

  • Mini Famicom

You’ve seen the recently announced Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom, right? This video does a great job of showing it off, and although I’d sure like to get one, I’m still quite looking forward to getting the NES Classic Edition when it comes out. The best thing about this announcement though is that Nintendo re-released GameCenter-CX…

  • Everybody Wants Some

This is absolutely one of my favorite movies this year. I loved this thing to bits, with all its slackerness, just spending some time hanging out with these characters. Killer soundtrack too. Thank you, Richard Linklater, for continuing to make movies like this. They make me very happy.
