As I mentioned a few times earlier this year, I was incredibly excited to see my buddy Andrew Lee redesign the Japan Times. At the most recent PechaKucha Night in Tokyo (Vol. 147, held on my birthday no less) he did a presentation on how the whole redesign came about, and it’s now available online. It’s a great watch.
The Artless design agency has opened a new office/gallery/cafe in Nakameguro (a move from the previously smaller space they occupied in Harajuku) and it looks like a stunning space (see photos in this Spoon & Tamago post). The gallery is strangely by appointment only, but the cafe is open to all, and specializes in both coffee and green tea.
A beautiful branding/packaging project by my buddy Ian Lynam for the Kurokura sake brand.
I missed posting this in time for Duncan‘s pop-up shop that he did this past weekend at Kanno Coffee, but I still love seeing all of his products in one image like this. Via Canvas.
Alvaro Arregui’s Nuevo Studio has completed a new branding project, in the form of the very slick web presence of filmmaker Yukihiro Shoda — check out the site.
Spoon & Tamago highlights the beautiful bike work of Nobuyuki Tani, and ex-Sony designer who ditched it all to concentrate on bikes — he also makes custom jobs, like the bike that was used in the live-action Kiki’s Delivery Service movie.
The annual “Famicase” exhibition of imaginary Famicom (NES) cartridges is on right now at Meteor in Nakano, and you can browse through all of the works here. Pictured top, the latest contribution from my buddy Cory Schmitz, who has been participating for 3 years running now.
Uniqlo has revealed its terrific lineup of 25 Nintendo-themed tees — going on sale May 19 — and I’m pretty frustrated because there’s so many I’d like to get, but I don’t yet know how I’ll get my hands on them.
Previously of Ustwo, Alvaro Arregui is a fairly recent new addition to the Tokyo creative scene, where he has launched his own studio, Studio Nuevo. This Canvas post gives you a good look at the beautiful logo he produced for the studio, and he also shares news that their taking in internships.
