Replaying Japan 2017: 5th International Japan Game Studies Conference

I should have shared this much soon, as the deadline for submitting abstracts is just around the corner on February 1, but it’s not too late. Replaying Japan 2017: 5th International Japan Game Studies Conference looks like quite the intriguing gathering, taking place August 21-23 at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester. There were certainly some interesting talks at last year’s conference, and I wish the material was available online.

Today (October 6, in Japan) in Tokyo is Google Span 2016, a conference featuring “conversations about design and technology,” and I’m blown away by the fantastic lineup, that not only includes a lot of smart people I know, but also a PechaKucha session. The space looks beautiful too. The entire thing is being livestreamed here (from 11:00 JST).

RYO-Z & PES & Tofubeats & PlayStation

Sony tried something new with the sizzle reel that kicked off its pre-Tokyo Game Show PlayStation conference yesterday. The great 5-minute video features RYO-Z and PES of the group RIP SLYME, rapping about the included games on top of beats provided by Tofubeats. It’s fun stuff, and makes for an entertaining way to take in the lineup.
