Legends of Tomorrow

I got completely burnt out on all super-hero shows at the start of the season, and just stopped cold turkey on everything I was watching (Flash, Arrow, Gotham). With the launch two weeks ago of Legends of Tomorrow, spinning off from Flash and Arrow, I got in the mood to watch this kind of stuff again. I went as far as binging both Flash and Arrow, catching up on the season so far, and I also plan on watching all of Supergirl (don’t think I’ll going back to Gotham though, as that show was getting less and less fun). I think Legends of Tomorrow is really fun so far, and I really like that it’s moving very fast, with no lulls, and with some big fight scenes that are fun to watch. I also enjoyed going through Flash and Arrow – the stuff that annoys me with each (some annoying characters in Arrow, and the soapy family stuff in Flash) didn’t bother me when I was just consuming all these episodes so quickly. Since last week I’ve started watching all these shows on a weekly basis, and I do wonder if I’ll be able to stick with it. I actually do prefer to just binge these shows, but at the same time, it’s fun talking about what’s going on each week with friends. Oh, and one more thing, I really enjoyed the episode of Arrow that featured the return of Constantine. Although the Constantine series wasn’t particularly good, the actor playing him was a true highlight, so it’s great that they brought him back, and I really hope we see more of him – how about an inclusion on the team of Legends of Tomorrow?

Gotham Season 2

There seems to be a lot of love-hate for Gotham out there – most of my friends who watch a bunch of the super-hero shows (like Flash and Arrow) have all given up on it. I found myself enjoying the first season though, especially for the Penguin character, who I felt was the true standout. Season 2 has kicked off, and the first episode is pretty iffy and kinda all over the place. It feels like they’re embracing camp much more than they did in the first season (i.e. pretty much all the scenes in the prison). We’ll see where things go though.

Daredevil

I’ve only watched the first episode so far, but wow, I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. I had low expectations because I’m not a fan of what Marvel has been producing on TV – I don’t like Agents of SHIELD, and although Agent Carter was more interesting because of the setting, it was so boring I didn’t watch the entire season. I also don’t like the production on these shows, they feel so TV – it’s not to say that Flash/Arrow don’t look like TV shows, but they have a nicer crisp production to them. But Daredevil is just fantastic, in terms of casting, the story so far, and the way it’s shot – way more gritty and better art directed than all those other shows. We’ll see how the rest of the season pans out, but so far I think I may like this even more than Flash/Arrow (and I’m a huge fan of those shows).

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

As I wrote before, I really didn’t like this series when it started, but then when the season was over I kept hearing that it got good, so I binged it, and I did indeed end up liking it – it gets good from the last third of the season. Season 2 has just started, and although you can see they are trying to set up some things, the first episode wasn’t really interesting at all. I was excited about the addition of Lucy Lawless, but she’s not given anything interesting to do here. I’ll give it a few episodes, but right now I’m feeling like I’ll be better served by just sticking to Arrow and Flash.
