  • By Design

This afternoon I went to the Laforet Museum for the Resfest‘s By Design program. I never miss this, and again this year I was not disappointed. MK12, probably my favorite MG (motion graphics) group out there, had 2 entries — finally giving me a chance to see the Funkstorung video they made in all its…

  • Touch! Exhibition: Feel the DS

I was walking around Harajuku earlier tonight, and when I stopped by Beams-T, I noticed a huge Nintendo DS display with 3 playable systems, part of something called the Touch! exhibition, also featuring Berlin’s Lodown. I had a chance to play the new MADE IN WARIO game (TOUCH! MADE IN WARIO) and Sega’s FEEL THE…

  • Kiiiiiii at Komaba

Tomorrow (Sunday) is the big school festival on the Komaba campus of Tokyo University, and Kiiiiiii will be performing, along with Spank Happy (Halcali was supposed to perform also, but they pulled out). Kiiiiiii will hit the stage from 3:50 to 4:20. The show is free (or something like a donations welcome kind of thing).

  • Uniqlo in the US

And now, you Americans will feel the wrath of Uniqlo. Fast Retailing Co said Thursday it will set up a subsidiary in the United States this month to start sales of its Uniqlo-brand casual clothing in the country. The United States will be the fourth foreign market the company has entered following Britain, China and…

  • Tokyo Q

A few weeks ago I had mentioned another possible writing project, and I can now announce that my first column for the Tokyo Q site is up. I’ll be writing two monthly columns for them, one on anime (which is the first one up), and one on design (which I think will be up in…

  • Tokyo Graffiti

Marxy takes a look at the new magazine TOKYO GRAFFITI. You should also have a look at the history of Shibuya-kei he’s been chronicling. Here are direct links to part 1 and part 2. Stay tuned for part 3.

  • Resfest 2004

The JAPAN TIMES has an article up on this weekend’s Resfest. Tokyo became a stop in 1999, one of the first beyond the original five cities. Japan also has been a major source of contributors. Last year saw Junji Kojima and Kentaro Kobayashi’s “Japanese Tradition (Relationships)” win the Audience Choice Award. This time, look for…

  • PSP Everywhere

Get ready for PSP madness to hit the street — alongside the Nintendo DS madness, that has already made it impossible to get a system because they can even match all the pre-orders — with this wacky marketing initiative: According to Shibuya Keizai Shinbun, the company will be promoting the PSP in Tokyo by showcasing…

  • Permanently Interested

I like this bit, from Pico Iyer reviewing Donald Richie’s JAPAN JOURNALS: 1947-2004 in last week’s TIME (Asian edition): The expatriate in Asia is often a complainer: things are so different there from the way they are in wherever he thinks of as home that he feels aggrieved, ripped off, patronized or left out. The…

  • iTunes Japan

Well, it’s about time we got some solid info on a release date for the Japanese iTunes store. Apple plans to open up its iTunes Music Store to Japanese customers by March 2005, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported on Thursday. The paper said that Apple aimed to offer more than 100,000 songs with an emphasis…
