  • No More Gyudon at Yoshinoya

From Japan Today: Fans of “gyudon” (beef bowl) wait in a long line on the last day of sales of the product at a Yoshinoya restaurant in Aoyama on Tuesday. Stocks have run out due to the import ban on U.S. beef for the first time since the chain opened in 1899.

  • Ito, Sugiyama, and Taniguchi Exhibit at the GGG

The new exhibit at the Ginza Graphic Gallery looks like it might be nice. Covers 3 artists this time: Ito Keiji, Taniguchi Hiroki, and Sugiyama Hiro. Here’s the blurb from REALTOKYO: A high-tension group show of works by three popular illustrators who have been operating “on the edge” for more than 20 years. On the…

  • More Stickers

Some more street art in Aoyama.

  • Samurai Champloo

And while on the subject of anime, I’m also quite excited by the prospect of a new TV series by COWBOY BEBOP director Watanabe Shinichiro. It’s called SAMURAI CHAMPLOO, and it looks like some kind of stylish take on samurai action, with a hiphop beat. Check out the trailer at the series’ official site.

  • Casshern

Check out the trailer for the live-action adaptation of a series called SHINZO NINGEN CASSHERN (CASSHAN – ROBOT HUNTER). I’ve never heard of the manga or anime this is based on, but the trailer looks nice. Here’s a link to the official site.

  • Stickers in Aoyama

    Some street art in Aoyama.

  • Cool Hunting

An article that takes a look at “cool hunting” in the streets of Tokyo. Can’t believe that the guy mentioned in the article charges $600 for something that you can do by simply getting off the train in places like Harajuku or Daikanyama and walking up and down the street.

  • Latin Panic!

Patrick went to the final Latin Panic! event (featuring Paradise Yamamoto and Comoesta Yaegashi) at Oto in Shinjuku Saturday night, and wrote a post about it, with lots of pics. I’m jealous that he’ll now be able to go to Paradise Yamamoto’s member-only gyoza bar…

  • Matt Fraction

Matt Fraction, one of the founders of too-cool-for-school design house MK12 (check the site for tons of cool works), as well as a comic creator (LAST OF THE INDEPENDANTS) is in Tokyo to participate in various panels, one of them this coming Tuesday night at the Ginza Apple Store (along with Lobo founder Mateus de…

  • Kon Satoshi's Paranoia Agent

I just watched the first episode of Kon Satoshi’s (PERFECT BLUE, MILLENNIUM ACTRESS, TOKYO GODFATHERS) new series, his first stab at TV, PARANOIA AGENT, and is it ever good. Like his films, the realism of the environments is always at the forefront (even for MILLENNIUM ACTRESS, he’s quite precise about the various film eras he…
