Pastries as Design

As the REALTOKYO reviewer mentions, it’s too bad the pastries on display won’t be for sale.

Old-established confectionery “Suetomi” is producing original sweets for each month of the year, and introduces the little artworks in an exhibition focusing on the aspect of design. For May, for example, there is the “Karagoromo” that appears in “Ise Monogatari” (Tales of Ise). September’s “Iro naki kaze” was inspired by the “Shinkokinwakashu” poetry collection, and exudes the same kind of aesthetically poetic air. More contemporary creations include the “Sakura Front”, the “Christmas Carol”, and many more. While Fukazawa Naoto’s composition of the displays is rather simple and almost pointless, the pastry shown here certainly belongs to the most beautiful things one gets the chance to see at the beginning of the new year. Unfortunately, none of the items are for sale, which costs the event half a star…

It happens at Ginza Matsuya‘s design gallery until January 24.
