  • Luxe Tokyo

Has anyone ever used the LUXE CITY GUIDE for Tokyo (or any other city for that matter)? If so, what are your thoughts? They do look like nice little decadent guides.

  • Tenori-On

My first design column for The Japan Times, which I’ve already sent in, includes the Toshio Iwai (media artist, creator of the ELECTROPLANKTON game for the Nintendo DS) designed Tenori-On (in association with Yamaha). And then today I see it appear on Paul‘s Flickr account — it’s on display at the Good Design Expo.

  • Aomori Museum of Art

Go here, and scroll down to the first post with pics to see some images of the Jun Aoki-designed Aomori Museum of Art. Link via Dezain.net.

  • New Hachituru Label Design

This is the new label design, by Konstantin Grcic, for the Japanese sake brand Hachituru. More images here (link via Dezain.net), and you can also pick up the latest issue of AXIS (117, the one with Kenya Hara on the cover) for an article in English covering the design process.

  • The Book of Pallalink

Last year I talked about THE BOOK OF PALLALINK, featuring symmetrical photography/design by architect Kazuhiko Kawahara, and this past weekend I finally got my hands on a copy. As expected, it’s a stunning piece of work, and I can’t stop leafing through it. I don’t know if there are any copies left (it was limited…

  • Lunch at Stair

Last week I finally had a chance to check out the Masamichi Katayama-designed Stair in Aoyama. I was having lunch there (in the great company of Nicole and Charlie) and, well, I’ll just say that daylight isn’t so kind to the space. I can see it really having a cool/stylish atmosphere at night (like in…

  • Takashi Sugimoto

Earlier tonight there was a fascinating profile on TV covering interior designer Takashi Sugimoto (the show aired at 22:00 on TV Tokyo). We were taken on a tour of some of his works — like the stunning Park Hyatt in Seoul — followed by a look at the house he bought and modestly renovated in…

  • Fujiya

In Ginza, late in the afternoon on Monday. It’s the huge intersection near the Sony Building.

  • Podcast Update

Just to update you on the Tokyo Boy podcast — I did some more testing yesterday, both inside and outside (walking around Ikebukuro in busy areas). The recordings done inside seem to be fine. Outside, it was mostly OK, even when holding at different lengths from my mouth. I heard crackling only once, and I’m…

  • This Week in Magazines

The latest issue of BRUTUS (579) is their annual — and very thick (think VOGUE) — fashion issue. The embossed white logo looks quite nice. As for the interior, for fashionistas only. PEN (161) devotes its cover feature to Italian motoring, specifically on a certain classic car and motorcycle that I’m assuming is quite famous…
