Month: November 2006

  • The Latest from Palla

Palla is coming to Tokyo, participating in the “New Cosmos of Photography Exhibition 2006” at the Metropolitan Museum of Photography, November 11 to December 3. Also, he will be doing a presentation at the next Pecha Kucha Night (Vol. 37, November 29), which will including a showing of a new work, “pallalinkMovie.”

  • Tokyo FILMeX 2006

Partly due to the fact that it was launched around the time when REALTOKYO opened, this film festival is one that I particularly love. This year’s installment features among others movies by Thai Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Chinese Jia Zhang-ke, Tsai Ming-liang from Taiwan and Ryoo Seung-Wan from Korea. These are all outstandingly unique directors who represent…

  • This Is What Tokyo Design Week Did to Me

Sonia has posted a whole bunch of pics from 100% Design Tokyo — she obviously got to spend a lot of time there as she was manning her Designboom Mart booth. Pictured above is what a week of design does to a sane person.

  • Karl Escritt Update

Nice to see Karl Escritt get mentioned (includes a video of one of his live painting performances) on Cool Hunting, and then here’s some event info for you if you happen to be in Kyoto sometime over the next few weeks. On 12 November 2006 Escritt has a show in Kyoto; 1 December 2006 he…

  • Casa Brutus Signed by Tadao Ando

As with last year, CASA BRUTUS had set up shop at the Selan cafe on the way to the Jingu-Gaien grounds (where Tokyo Designer’s Week/100% Tokyo Design were being held), and they were selling past issues (as well as passing out their DAILY CASA BRUTUS editions), including copies of the recently released “The Complete Grand…

  • Nudie Cafe Video Installation

I’ve added a few more shots to the “Nudie Cafe” Flickr photoset, mostly showcasing the video projection by NIM. The video is programmed to create “visual beats” that play along with the tracks from all our compilations. There is also an MTV-style info bumper that appears at the bottom left whenever a new track starts.…

  • Nudie Cafe Compilations

For those interested, I’ve posted the complete playlists — after the jump — for the compilations that we are playing at the cafe during the “Nudie Cafe” event. Contributors are Hideki Kaji, Embee, Hird, Hej Musik, and Marc Xavier LeBlanc (Bones), and all music is 100% Swedish.

  • This Week in Magazines

Yes, another one, because I stopped by Junkudo earlier today and picked up a few magazines for the cafe (full list here). The new issue of PAPER SKY (19) is out. It’s a return to Japanese-only — although the editorial is bilingual, for some reason — with the feature “London on the Grass,” which covers…

  • Swedish Style 2006 Opening Party

I’ve put up a Flickr photoset of shots from last night’s official opening party for Swedish Style 2006 at the Embassy of Sweden in Roppongi.

  • TMP Paper Collector

I was able to get my hands on the TMP Paper Collector, from TMP (Thomas Merlo & Partner) Switzerland, and I just love it. Originally designed by Swiss designer Willi Glaeser, you can catch it at the Swiss booth at 100% Design Tokyo, along with some other great products from TMP (and of course other…
