  • 101TOKYO Opening

I had the great pleasure of attending last night’s opening reception for the inaugural 101TOKYO contemporary art fair. The event runs until April 6, and is being held at the Rensei Chugakkou in Akihabara. It was a joy to take in, and I’m stunned at what the organizers were able to achieve, especially considering that…

  • H&M Teams Up with Comme des Garcons for Tokyo Launch

We all knew that H&M were finally going to open their first Japan store in Tokyo later this year, but now comes news that the November launch will coincide with an exclusive line by Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garcons, covering menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, accessories, and a new unisex fragrance. • Marxy and Verena

I took this shoot last Friday night during the reception for the re-opening of the Claska hotel in Meguro. There’s something I really like about this shot of Marxy and Verena, like we’re spying in on something.

  • This Week at MoCo Loco

My weekly Tokyo post for MoCo Loco is up, and covers Generate Design‘s online sales of items from last December’s “PROTOTYPE” exhibition, MARUNI60‘s new lineup, and the Milano Salone’s “Japan Design 2008 – Innovation” exhibition and Swarovki’s “Crystal Palace” installation (with works by Tokujin Yoshioka).

As Kotaku reports: Label conscious Nintendo fans…

  • Paper Tea House and NE Apartments

Dezeen updates with two Japanese projects (and of course plenty of photos). First, Shigeru Ban’s Paper Tea House (pictured above), and then the NE Apartments (pictured below) by Akiyoshi Takagi, Yuji Nakae, and Hirofumi Ono.

  • Tokyo Art Map

You should start noticing the TAB-produced (design by AQ) bilingual Tokyo Art Map around the city. Planned as a bi-monthly series, the first release focuses on Marunouchi Art Weeks, but all areas of the city get covered, so get your hands on one as soon as possible. Update: Paul Baron talks more about the new map…

  • Ani-Kuri’s Third Season Streams

NHK have posted all five shorts for the third season of their ANI-KURI series online (the first two seasons are available as well). The third season has quite the line-up of directors: Shoji Kawamori (MACROSS), Satoshi Kon (PAPRIKA), Mahiro Maeda (BLUE SUBMARINE NO. 6), Michael Arias (TEKKONKINKREET) and Makoto Shikai (VOICES OF A DISTANT STAR).…
