Yuichi Yokoyama
The Drawn! blog has just introduced me to the wonderful illustrative stylings of Yuichi Yokoyama, and I know absolutely must pick up some of his books. I really like clean lines and sense of motion seen in his manga work. See the original Drawn! post for more examples (and here also).
Loic de Tonge is a Tokyo-based French interior designer who has put together some very attractive spaces (Space Live real-estate offices, the Allodi-R select shop, the Zusso Kids hair salon), and there’s plenty to enjoy from his site’s portfolio.
Bento.com Vs. Google Maps
Robb Satterwhite, of the Bento.com food guide, has launched some very useful Google Maps for both Tokyo and the Kansai region.
Object Fetish
Object Fetish is probably something that would interest a lot of people who read this site (or basically anyone who uses Superfuture on a regular basis), and they’re currently looking for some people to work as photographers and personal shoppers. Here are two listings that might interest some of you Tokyo-based fashion/design freaks:
Studioesque photographer looking for gigs?
We’re starting an internet retail site and we’re recruiting outgoing photographers looking for new clients. Find cool stores who want to join our little network of retailers, and those stores could become steady clients, but you’ll have to make the connection. You will need a digital slr, strobes, a softbox, and a clean styling sensibility. In other words, be a pro. Keep in mind, we get a lot of replies, so you have to be very good. And if you are, we’ll list you for free on our site as a photographic resource in your city. Just fill out our simple form at http://ObjectFetish.com/photoapp.php
Want to be a Shopping Friend?
We’re looking for sharp flexible people who can take travelers for tours of interesting shops they might never know about if they never met you. We’re not looking for just anyone, but people who know design, be it sneaker, interior, accessory, t-shirt, couture, food et cetera. Be specific about what you can offer a traveler coming to your fair city, offer something very cool like a tour of underground knitting factories – and we’ll list you for free on our site if you really know your stuff. Just fill out our simple form at http://ObjectFetish.com/shopperapp.php
Big congrats go out to our favorite Tokyo-based book designer — I’m talking of course of Chin Music Press‘ Craig Mod — for having been selected as a judge for this year’s edition of the ADC (Art Directors Club) Awards. Let the love for CMP spread, and spread…
Mu Art Cafe
I forgot to mention it in my Roppongi travelogue the other day, but I also spotted this place called Mu Art Cafe in the TV Asahi building (it’s on the street side). There’s a small cafe area inside, but most of the space is taken up by various artworks for sale. A small window-side corridor hosted the nomadic-like tent installation that you see pictured above.
AXIS Gallery Annex
The empty AXIS Gallery Annex on the AXIS building’s basement floor. Just my luck that the place (as well as the 4th floor AXIS Gallery) had to be between shows during my visit.

Give this Designer a Job
Paul Baron, one of the co-creators of Tokyo Art Beat, is currently looking for some freelance work (print/web/usability/interface) so that he can continue his support of TAB, as well as some new super-secret project that I’m dying to hear more about! Here’s a link to his online portfolio.
